Deer hunting outfitters supply equipment required to have a successful deer hunt. Some deer hunting outfitters furnish everything you need, while others furnish the basics only. Outfitting for sport hunting and fishing has become a multi-million dollar business, especially in North America and Canada. African safaris are often advertised as: “Bring yourself and we will supply the rest.” (For a fee, of course.)

You can spend many thousands of dollars for equipment that outfitters will loan you as part of a several day hunting package, which can save you money in the long run, especially if you are not a repetitive avid hunter. If you hunt regularly and often, it will probably pay to buy your own equipment, since it will last for many years if you take care of it.

You can spend thousands of dollars for fancy lodgings with all the perks that go with it. Or you can find an outfitter who will lend you a tent, provide a campfire in evenings for you and your party along with a cooked meal.

Understanding the basic needs for any hunting trip is vitally important in order to be safe and successful. First of all depending on the climate and the time of year you plan your trip, take clothing that will keep you warm and as dry as possible. Keep a close eye on the weather predictions in that area. If the weather predicts warm temperatures during day and cooler in the evening, make sure you take light weight clothes you can layer up or down in. You don’t want to get so hot that sweat accumulates on your skin and clothing.

The right firearm or bow depends on the game you intend to hunt and your experience. You will also need a sharp hunting knife carried in a sheath in order to dress out the game you bag. Make certain to take plenty of ammunition.

Wear footware that fits comfortably, that has been worn long enough to test them for long hikes. Never take long trekking hikes in new shoes. If the terrain is rocky and slippery, boots with deep treads could be of benefit. In heavy snow areas, snowshoes may be warranted.

Plan to take a small waterproof safety kit in case of some type of injury, along with enough toilet paper to last for the trip.

Take enough food and water for the days planned with an additional supply in case there is an emergency. Take along some water purification tablets, in case you run out of water. Insect repellent may also be a good idea in warmer climates.

Take a compass since even the best woodsman can get turned around and disoriented to direction, especially on a cloudy day. Take plentiful matches in a waterproof package or two bic lighters in case one fails. Make certain you know how to build a campfire.

You will need a sleeping bag that will keep you warm, and some place to sleep that will keep you dry, such as a light fold up tent.

The above lists the basics only. Deer hunting outfitters may also provide decoys, seats to sit on while waiting in a blind, warmers for feet and hands, game carrier carts, hoists to hang a deer, and other necessary hunting supplies.
